Our concept for Camp Christmas was to embrace, but also update our favorite traditional looks for Christmas. This scene is all about the feeling of coming home for the Holidays. The front porch seemed like the perfect place to make this feeling come alive since firewood and other earthy pieces would be on hand naturally.
Then, when it came to selecting patterns for this look, our immediate reaction was: plaid, plaid and plaid! Could any trend be begging to appear in Christmas decorating more? We knew we would get our plaid fix somewhere but also knew the challenge would be to make it seem current.
To achieve a fresh look, we mixed many different plaids, with a focus on larger scale and threw in some copper to give it another modern twist. We loved the idea of contrasting the copper with natural elements like raw wood (check out the copper “dipped” stool we made by simply applying ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape Exterior Surfaces 2097 and spraying it with copper spray paint...easy and inexpensive).
Overall, we wanted to put together a scene that felt warm and welcoming. To achieve this feeling, it was all about draping outdoor furniture in soft materials and soft light: flannel, faux fur and twinkle lights galore.
Then, for the centerpiece, we wanted something to tie it together and make it all our own— the wreath. This is where we put our own spin on the plaid trend with a custom scarf-wrapped wreath in a bold red and black buffalo check. We added another layer of plaid with a small-scale black and white check in a loose, casual knot with long tails, and then finished it off with a sprig of pine and berries.
We love this wreath so much because it is right on trend, but also feels at home with Christmas tradition. See how you can make it yourself here!
