How To Apply and Remove Command™ Indoor & Outdoor Hooks, Ledges, and Caddies

There are important tips to know and follow before applying Command™ Indoor & Outdoor Hooks, Ledges, and Caddies to ensure they hold up to your needs:

- Wait 7 days after painting before use

- DO NOT apply strips to paper or soft surfaces on frame

- Remove hanging hardware from back of frame

- DO NOT hang over beds or on wallpaper

- DO NOT hang valuable or irreplaceable items

- Indoor Hooks have a temperature range of 50°F to 105°F

- Outdoor Hooks have a temperature range of -20°F to 125°F

- Outdoor Hooks are made with UV-resistant and water-resistant adhesive

- Indoor Hooks have red liners while Outdoor Hooks have blue liners

Failure to follow instructions carefully may cause damage.

How to Apply One and Two-Piece Hooks and Caddies

  • Person cleaning a wall with a cloth.

    Step 1: Wipe wall with rubbing alcohol. Do not use household cleaners or water.

  • Hands show removing the black liner from the strip, and pressing it against a window.

    Step 2 (Clear Outdoor Hooks): Remove black liner first and apply strip to the window, pressing firmly for 30 seconds. Then remove the blue liner and press the hook to the strip firmly for 30 seconds.

    Step 2 (All Other Hooks): Remove the blue or red liner and press the adhesive strip or strips firmly to the back of the hook. Then remove the black liner and press to the surface firmly for 30 seconds.

    Step 3: If applying a one-piece hook, wait 1 hour and the hook will be ready to use. For two-piece hooks, complete steps 4 – 6.

  • Step 4 - Remove remaining liners. Press frame firmly to wall.

    Step 4 (For Two-Piece Hooks Only): Temporarily remove the hook from the wall by gently sliding it up and off of the back plate.

  • Step 5 - To ensure adhesive hold, temporarily remove frame from wall to reinforce strips. Peel frame as shown. Press each strip on wall for 30 sec.

    Step 5 (For Two-Piece Hooks Only): Press base firmly for 30 seconds.

  • Step 6 - Wait 1 hour for adhesive to build. Align strips. Press frame until each pair of strips clicks.

    Step (For Two-Piece Hooks Only): Slide hook back on. Wait 1 hour for adhesive to build.

How To Remove One and Two-Piece Hooks and Caddies

Learn the proper way to remove Command™ Hooks.

  • Hands hold the back plate in place.

    Step 1: Hold hook or back plate gently in place with one hand.

  • Hands pulling strip away from the wall, a red prohibited circle with a strike through it overlaps the image.

    Step 2: NEVER pull the strip towards you. Always pull straight down.

  • Hands pull the strips down against the wall to remove.

    Step 3: With the other hand, stretch the strip slowly against the wall (at least 12 inches) to release.

Painted walls, painted or varnished wood, painted cinder block or concrete, tile, metal, glass, laminates, or smooth solid surfaces are all approved damage-free hanging surfaces for Command™ Products.
